COURSE DETAILS
Francesca Tandoi's Jazz Improvisation video course is aimed at all musicians who wish to improve their bebop phrasing and acquire a conscious mastery of the construction of effective and musically coherent jazz solos.
Whether you are a pianist, a saxophonist or play any other instrument, you will find in this course a clear and complete guide to approach the bebop language, based on the teachings of the great masters of the genre such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell and many others.
Starting from the basics, the course introduces the study of the triad approach , approached with three main strategies: the chromatic approach, enclosures and creative freedom in the use of other triads. This provides a solid foundation for the creation of interesting and sophisticated melodic lines.
The knowledge of the major and minor bebop scales is then explored in depth, with particular attention to their harmonization on all degrees of the scale, useful for increasing fluidity and confidence during improvisation.
A central element of the video course is the harmonic analysis of jazz standards such as Autumn Leaves and Donna Lee.
Francesca shows in a practical way how to apply the techniques studied directly on the repertoire, transforming the theory into concrete music.
Furthermore, the course provides guidance on how to effectively use solo transcriptions , an indispensable tool for expanding and personalizing your musical vocabulary.
The goal is to help the student understand the mechanisms underlying bebop phrasing and integrate them into his or her own style in a natural way.
The video course is suitable for those who have basic harmonic knowledge, such as the construction of scales and chords, and want to take a decisive step in developing their improvisational ability.
Jazz Improvisation thus offers a complete path, full of practical ideas, for those who aspire to master the jazz language with awareness and taste.
START NOWIntroduction to the study path of jazz improvisation, with reference to the teachings of the masters of bebop and the need to analyze their language to develop one's own musical voice.
Explanation of the use of the triad as a melodic foundation, enriched by ascending and descending chromatic approaches to create tension and resolution over a harmonic progression.
Introducing the concept of enclosures, or notes surrounding those of the triad, to expand melodic possibilities during improvisation.
I invite a creative approach to the triad, using other triads as steps towards the target notes and generating interesting dissonances before resolution.
Practical application of triad approaches to a standard piece, “Autumn Leaves,” experimenting between major and relative minor keys, with the aim of improving harmonic mastery.
Illustration of the bebop major scale, characterized by the insertion of a chromaticism between the fifth and sixth degrees, useful for improvising in eighth notes thanks to its eight-note structure.
Description of the harmonization of the major bebop scale, through the construction of chords on each degree with third intervals, useful for enriching improvisation.
Analysis of the harmonization of the minor bebop scale, with practical applications on pieces such as “So What”, to vary improvisation on long chords and in modal contexts.
Study of the piece “Bebop” by Dizzy Gillespie, considered a manifesto of bebop, to understand the use of arpeggios on the eighth-note scale and combine them with triads.
In-depth study of Charlie Parker’s “Donna Lee”, with technical analysis and transcription of significant phrases to adapt to different tonalities and integrate with triads and enclosures.
An in-depth look at using the triad as a guide tool even on complex, fast pieces like “Donna Lee,” with tips for practicing other standards using the stability of the major and minor triads.
Practical application of the techniques learned on “But Not For Me”: using triads, the bebop scale and phrases from “Donna Lee” to construct a coherent and conscious solo.
