COURSE DETAILS
Jazz Guitar Solo Playing is a course designed for musicians who want to develop a complete and personal approach to solo guitar , combining technique, harmony and interpretation.
We start from the basics of harmonizing melodies on major and minor chords, up to more complex constructions through harmonic substitutions , personalized voicings and creative use of secondary dominants .
Great attention is paid to the importance of internal timing , with practical exercises for playing in time even without a rhythm section, managing the time independently through a constant physical pulsation.
The course also addresses the development of walking bass lines , self-accompaniment , and the ability to confidently follow the harmonic form of songs during improvisation.
It shows how to construct an entire piece , alternating rubato and regular tempo, carefully choosing the atmosphere and phrasing.
There's no shortage of practical advice for tackling the stage as a solo guitar player , with suggestions on how to structure a balanced and engaging setlist.
The whole thing is enriched by real examples taken from the jazz repertoire, from the style of the great master Joe Pass and also by songs of pop or Brazilian extraction, always with the aim of developing an authentic guitar voice .
START NOWAn introduction to harmonizing melodies on major chords. Different positions and approaches are explored for harmonizing each note of the scale, using basic voicings, diatonic chords, and altered solutions to expand harmonic possibilities.
Analysis of a jazz standard, first harmonized simply and then enriched with substitutions, harmonic delays, and personal approaches. The goal is to find your own sound, experimenting with various solutions to existing melodies.
An in-depth look at turnarounds and fundamental cadences, with practical exercises for harmonizing each note using secondary dominants and tritones. This approach expands harmonic freedom within the context of chord melody.
Right-hand techniques (pick, fingers, thumb) and timing management. The importance of a constant internal pulse to keep time in the absence of a rhythm section is emphasized, with dedicated exercises.
Study of voicings on minor, dominant, and half-diminished chords, focusing on the notes in the chord and the possibilities offered by accidentals and external notes. You'll learn to build custom chords starting from basic shapes.
An introduction to walking bass for solo guitar, with progressive exercises that combine bass lines and chords. Melodic connections, chromatic semitones, and harmonic substitutions are explored to enrich the accompaniment.
How to follow a harmonic structure without accompaniment. You'll learn to maintain form while improvising, alternating phrases and chords, until you can confidently self-accompany in various song types.
Constructing a piece for solo guitar: introductions, use of stolen tempo, thematic development, and endings. Harmonic clichés and strategies for arranging even non-jazz pieces are demonstrated, always focusing on sound, melody, and rhythm.
Practical tips for tackling the stage as a solo guitar player. We cover setlists, expressive variety, and song length, as well as the importance of knowing a wide range of songs and leveraging your skills to sustain a full concert.
