The first chord of Take the A Train is a C, one letter and no more. Francesca Tandoi teaches jazz piano players what to put under it. You reach for the same shape each time: the whole chord in the left hand, the melody in the right. Nothing in between.
Teaching in Italian, she takes the chord symbols apart one by one and stops where the book is wrong. In three and a half hours the left hand drops to two notes, the root with the seventh or the third, whichever the melody wants. She leaves you with the exercise that made her: open the book at random, a tune a day.

Sono sassofonista ma ho sempre sognato di suonare anche il piano perché affascinato molto dall’armonia jazz, oltre che dalla melodia. Dopo lo studio di tanti metodi diversi, in cui mi stavo perdendo, con Francesca Tandoi ho trovato finalmente un’insegnante che riesce a trasmettere, con passione e professionalità, anche la teoria più complessa applicandola subito allo strumento. La lezione sul turnaround mi ha aperto un mondo. Prima vedevo 1-6-2-5 come una sigla, adesso sento dove vanno le voci e posso scegliere la sostituzione giusta. Ho ristudiato 'It Could Happen to You' tre volte da zero e ogni volta trovo qualcosa di nuovo.

Solo che per accedervi ogni volta un calvario...e apri il sito e invia il codice e metti il codice , proposta commerciale di tutti i corso, poi vai a caccia del tuo corso e finalmente si puo' continuare... ma forse sono io negato a interfacciarmi col web. Il booklet da solo vale il prezzo. Avere ogni voicing trascritto mi ha fatto risparmiare settimane di trascrizioni a orecchio. Cura maniacale dei dettagli
La qualità del video cambia tutto. Vedi dove mette le mani, come si muovono le dita tra i voicing. Non è un tutorial: è come essere seduto accanto a lei.
